Information about this tool

This tool lets you play with Cisco UCS fabric interconnect port layouts & pricing. It was designed specifically to compare existing 6248/6296 FI's with third-gen 6332/6332-16UP FI's due in Q1 2016 (update: published to the cisco GPL on Jan 22). Based on your requirements, this tool attempts to build a sensible bill of materials (BOM) and FI port layout. Some rules followed:
  1. on 6248/6296
    • expansion modules are used to add port licensing. before individual port licenses are.
  2. on the 6332-16UP
    • after the 8 licensed UP's have been consumed, new 10G LAN ports prefer 40G breakout cabling over licensing additional UP ports
    • FC SAN ports are allocated in 6-port blocks from the left. On 62xx, FC SAN ports are allocated individually from the right.
  3. on the 6332 and 6332-16UP
    • QSA's are used as a last resort to provide 10G LAN, and only on ports that support them (last six ports of 6332/6332-16up, ports 13-14 of 6332)
  4. SR SFP's are "S-class" (the cheaper enterprise class versions)
Note: The resulting BOM is for a single fabric. A complete UCS system would need two fabrics, plus chassis & blades. Transceivers are included for both sides of LAN and IOM links, but not for SAN uplinks. Prices are list/NTE prices, a la carte, without regard for bundles or SmartPlay. The list prices used are shown below and may no longer be accurate.
