Stan Sunderwirth Thu Jan 1 18:04:00 2015
So...it's Jan 1 and I logged my miles, despite the warning. And the new site listed just takes you back to this page. So.... what gives?
Mi Letz Wed Nov 12 08:53:00 2014
I never stop. Oh...except for deep snow.
John C. Smith Fri Nov 7 13:20:00 2014
I think we should get extra points for riding through the Winter. Barring injury or ice storms, that's what I intend to do. Maybe they can give out toe covers as prizes.
Ricky Lee Albores Thu Nov 6 15:46:00 2014
keep on riding people!
Stan Sunderwirth Wed Nov 5 14:20:00 2014
No more prizes though...
Heidi Coleman Tue Nov 4 13:06:00 2014
I thought the points would stop accumulating at the end of September, but the tally keeps going up. I hit platinum! Woo hoo!
Heidi Coleman Mon Sep 29 16:37:00 2014
I won't make it to platinum or diamond, but I surpassed 2000 points and 1000 miles. Not bad for my first time on Endomondo.
Tina Barton Fri Sep 26 19:26:00 2014
9 more points to "diamond"! :-)
Rod Smith Fri Sep 26 18:53:00 2014
(edit) Mark, say hi if you see me. I'll be wearing last year's TdP jersey (red w/ white sleeves) baggie shorts, green hybrid with stickers.
Mark Hamilton Wed Sep 24 21:37:00 2014
I'm doing 50 at Tour de Ports.
Rod Smith Tue Sep 23 18:39:00 2014
That's terrible but thankfully it sounds like the probability of a full recovery is high.

Rod Smith Tue Sep 23 07:28:00 2014
Thomas Point looks nice. I'll have to ride there next time. I got a little over 100 miles the day I saw you, my first visit to the B&A Trail. Anyone riding Tour de Ports Sunday?
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Sep 20 08:43:00 2014
@Rod Smith - maybe we'll see you out there this weekend. As Maxine stated, it was nice that you waived us down. I hope you had a chance to ride all of the way into Annapolis. If so, and if you have the time, you could extend the trip and ride out to Thomas Point. The traffic calms down once you jump off of Bay Ridge Rd and then on to Arundel on the Bay Rd. Safe travels.
Sher De Lune Tue Sep 16 14:14:00 2014
Oh, congrats Harry Rowell! I really want to ride the GAP, will probably do this next May.
Christy Middleton Mon Sep 15 22:02:00 2014
Wow - congrats Harry!
Harry Rowell Mon Sep 15 08:35:00 2014
Five of us rolled into D.C. last night after conquering 335 trail miles from PIttsburgh along the GAP and C&O canal in four days (87/88/100/73). Amazing natural beauty and quite a sense of accomplishment.
Maxine Mead Sun Sep 14 21:47:00 2014
Nice to see you, Rod! We went out to Fort Smallwood Park and met up with a friend, then rode back to my place -- 40 miles. It really was a perfect weather day for riding!
Rod Smith Sun Sep 14 17:40:00 2014
Delightfully unexpected encounter with Isaias and Maxine on the B&A trail today. Nice to see you out enjoying this great weather.
Tina Barton Sun Sep 14 08:17:00 2014
Hope your cargo bike is rolling again Susan. I had fun today using NYC's citi bike program. The touch pad was not sensitive or the computer was very slow but I finally got my day pass, then I had trouble figuring out where to enter my key code once I picked my bike. Then I had trouble releasing it. Then I had trouble docking it near battery park so I went over the 30 minute limit. But I have all day to ride again and it should only cost me 15 dollars.
Susan Pitcher Fri Sep 12 11:59:00 2014
so depressed. The rim of the rear wheel of my cargo bike split last night and I lose the chance for 10 miles Friday evening and 20 on Sunday when I have to do those trips with the dog in the <gasp> car. The replacement cannot come soon enough!
Jenny Sunderwirth Thu Sep 11 19:22:00 2014
Heather - we'll be wearing LLS Team in Training purple - riding a blue & green Co-motion tandem. Feel the draft :-)
Stan Sunderwirth Tue Sep 9 09:25:00 2014
Really sorry we didn't do the Indian Head yesterday. Our TnT ride was less than optimal. Jenny and I will be at Seagull.
Dan Donahue Tue Sep 9 06:56:00 2014
The Indian Head 100 when very well. The final count of participants should be close to 850 cyclists! The record had been 600 riders. This coming week I will be trying something new- route marking the northern section of the St. Mary's Century by bicycle instead of from my car. The event, put on by Pax Velo, is on Saturday, Sept 28th. Proceeds from the ride go to the Semper Fi Fund, which helps wouhded warriors.
Tina Barton Mon Sep 8 18:17:00 2014
I took an easy day today. I would have liked to go to the Indian Head event but just didn't have the get-up-and-go. I hope everyone had a lovely ride! I just rode to church and the grocery store today. Yesterday my husband and i did the Gwynnes Falls Trail - we always enjoy that as it is so diverse. But there was way more glass broken on the trail than times past. I won't be at Seagull but lots of my friends will be. I hope it is a good time and not too windy for everyone!
Heather April Mon Sep 8 13:58:00 2014
Who is coming to Salisbury for the seagull century next month?
Dan Donahue Sun Sep 7 19:19:00 2014
@Stan- Bring the triple, pedal the century route and presto you've got 360 pts!
Stan Sunderwirth Sat Sep 6 15:39:00 2014
We're considering it.... instead of the 70-mile team-in-training ride my wife signed up for.
Dan Donahue Thu Sep 4 07:51:00 2014
Correction: Oxon Hill website for on-line registration for the Indian Head Century is ohbike.memberlodge.org
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Sep 4 06:58:00 2014
Yay! Go team!
Dan Donahue Thu Sep 4 06:54:00 2014
I want to invite all of the State of MD NBC participants to come out and enjoy the Sunday, Sept. 8 Indian Head Century. I recently assisted marking the route and can testify that it's an extremely beautiful ride for the 43, 60 and 100 mi. routes. There are also 29 & 16 mi. options for more casual and family riders. You can pre-register on the Oxon Hill Bike & Trail club website (OHBike/memberlodge.org) or walk up on the day of the event (extra $10 for walk-up registration).
Rod Smith Wed Sep 3 20:04:00 2014
Congrats Rino "nothing to do with this challenge of course," Oh no, of course not! You just happened to ride over 100 miles four days in a row... :)

Congrats Stan and Jenny on the big miles in OH.

Rino Sanchez Tue Sep 2 23:09:00 2014
Thanks everybody! Most of the miles were around Anne Arundel County, with a couple exceptions. Saturday, I rode with a friend up Sugarloaf, and Sunday I did a test-ride of Larry's Ride. Other than that, I put together bits and pieces of other rides, then do the BWI loop and B&A until I've had enough :-) During Sunday's ride, I figured I'd get close to 100 miles with my rough plan, and I got with 100.0 on the dot. Actually, that was my favorite day, weather was perfect, I was cruising, and as I was leaving BWI, a jet flew low right overhead (straight out of Top Gun).
Stan Sunderwirth Tue Sep 2 22:51:00 2014
By the way, passed 6000 Endomondo points and 5000 miles for the year this weekend.
Stan Sunderwirth Tue Sep 2 22:45:00 2014
Nice work, Rino! We thought we'd try to limit your gains by riding 4 consecutive metric centuries. We got 63 miles on Friday but Jenny overheated in the 105 degree heat on Saturday (in Ohio) and we only got 55 miles. Then it thunderstormed as we were about to go out later for the extra 8 miles. Sunday, we got 66 miles. But today, we only got 40 miles as we had to get back to the hotel in time to check out and drive the 480 miles back to Maryland....
Dmitry Rudnev Tue Sep 2 21:46:00 2014
Congrats Rino, that's awesome!

I did my first century of this year last Friday, a pleasant 110 miles from Cape Henlopen to Assateague Island and back...

Tina Barton Tue Sep 2 21:46:00 2014
Yay Rino - so where all did you ride?
Rino Sanchez Tue Sep 2 20:12:00 2014
Thought I'd share today's riding accomplishment, I just finished my fourth century over the last 4 days. Just did it because I had the time and inclination to do it, had nothing to do with this challenge of course, although I'll have what will probably be a brief shining moment in first on the local challenge :)
Mark Hamilton Mon Sep 1 19:12:00 2014
I'm 27th! The highest I've ever been(or ever will be)!
Navah Langmeyer Mon Sep 1 17:20:00 2014
My reign is now over. Long live the king, the queen is dead.
Tina Barton Mon Sep 1 16:09:00 2014
Yeah something is wrong with endomondo .... No points have been calculated except for Navah today. I rode a whopping 11 miles, to church, store and home and my points are what they were yesterday. Navah probably infected the system so she can be first. :-)
Navah Langmeyer Mon Sep 1 08:41:00 2014
Wow, I'm actually in first place locally for September, with my 3-mile farmers' market trip. I'm also the only person on the leaderboard. The early bird...
Eric Bubar Sun Aug 31 21:42:00 2014
Absolutely true Stan. I think that's why I never have problems on Maryland roads when I take the lane. Perhaps people are just used to it here in MD. The silver lining here is i'll switch my route to avoid this officer's path in favor of a hillier final 2 miles. Hills are good and will make me stronger. If I keep saying that to myself, i'm sure i'll start believing it!
Stan Sunderwirth Sun Aug 31 21:31:00 2014
Maryland law was changed 2 years ago to affirm that cyclists have the right to use the full lane if in the cyclists opinion, it is safer to do so. VA seems to have hostile bike laws.
Eric Bubar Sun Aug 31 20:29:00 2014
Just wanted to warn folks here about biking around northern VA. A car buzzed me recently, a cop saw it and pulled me over because I was taking the lane and not riding far enough to the right. He told me that I was almost hit by the car (confirming the lady passed me too close), that it would be my fault and that "you people (cyclists) make the roads dangerous." Needless to say it is a bit disconcerting that the law is, apparently, not always on our side. As far as I can tell, I am in the right to take the lane to make my riding safer. When I don't people pass me way too close, which cops apparently won't call them on. When I take the lane, people are perhaps forced to wait around 10 seconds until the left lane is clear to pass me by changing lanes. Happy riding and be safe out there!
Rod Smith Sun Aug 31 07:38:00 2014
Jacob bulk uploaded all rides at the same time and has not updated since. His MapMyRide acct is updated daily. http://www.mapmyride.com/profile/13750886/
Stan Sunderwirth Sat Aug 30 22:38:00 2014
Actually, the thing that I couldn't figure out is how Jacob is posting his results at exactly the same time (plus 0-60 seconds) each day. Obviously, a script is being used to post his miles that activates at the same time each day plus 0-60 seconds. In my world, I would flag that as a possible hack.
Heather April Sat Aug 30 20:12:00 2014
Jacob is incredible!!
Dan Donahue Sat Aug 30 15:31:00 2014
Susan, thanks for the Jacob link as well. It's hard to avoid suspicion w/ some of the numbers being posted to Endo at times. One rider ahead of me by 200 pts, is ahead of me by 1600 pts the next day!!!
Oh well, better that he hack Endo than the electric grid.
Rod Smith Fri Aug 29 10:15:00 2014
Go Jacob! Kudos and good luck with the fundraising. Thanks Susan for the link. Condolences Isaias for getting bumped out of first place in the local challenge. I must admit I was a little suspicious of this rider who seemed to have come out of left field. OK, riding to baseball stadiums. That makes sense. :D

Good question, Stan.

Who is Jacob Landis? Very odd pattern of riding...

Man between work and other things i cant remember the last time i was on the computor
Pete Chang Tue Aug 26 14:56:00 2014
The gaps! Did the Brandon and Middlebury gaps in the VT Green mountains. There are 6 gaps and each of them is about 1500 foot climb with the top 1/2 mile pitched at about 16 percent. Yes, you have to stand, for a long time! I thought I was going to die. Some people do all six in one day...
Tina Barton Sat Aug 23 16:24:00 2014
CANMD Happy Hour Take 3 - Flippin' Pizza at Arundel Mills fundraiser for Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. Please join us Sept 5 in the evening - 5-9 or so. Well we'll have to buy our pizza there and eat outside which precludes beer. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work.
Susan Pitcher Fri Aug 22 17:59:00 2014
@Dan, there is a very sweet looking $600 version from a company that did a successful Kickstarter, but I opted for the $259 (free shipping) Hillkicker pro. Steel frame, 3 fixed seat positions, standard spoke front wheel, mondo-sized rumbling plastic back tires. I spent another 50 on chrome horn, 6 foot pirate safety flag, mirror and silver handlebar streamers.
Dan Donahue Fri Aug 22 14:37:00 2014
@Susan-Is the trike like the original w/ plastic frame and wheels? Where did you get it and how much did it cost? Sounds like great fun.
Susan Pitcher Fri Aug 22 10:17:00 2014
@Dan, a drift trike is basically a big wheel for adults. a bit harder to send into a skid since the brake is on the front rim, but the pedals freewheel on the front hub so you don't have to hold your feet out to the sides on the downhill. good full-body work pedaling up the hill since you have to counter-pull on the handlebars!
Dan Donahue Fri Aug 22 08:34:00 2014
@Susan-what's a drift trike? Were you grining gears or pieces of the trike along the road? Recently I test piloted a home-built long wheel base delta style recumbent trike. The builder, a retired Air Force structural mechanic, cann't ride it yet as he is recovering from a stroke. My mission was to test for high speed stability.
Susan Pitcher Sun Aug 17 19:30:00 2014
just finished assembling a drift trike and logged 1.11 miles riding it up and down the street- grining the entire time :)
Tina Barton Thu Aug 14 19:01:00 2014
Next CANMD Happy Hour: 5pm Friday Aug 16 at Ram's Head, Savage Mill.
Stan Sunderwirth Mon Aug 11 20:40:00 2014
Yay, Navah!
Navah Langmeyer Sun Aug 10 19:13:00 2014
Vacations in Portland are VERY good for earning points!
Tina Barton Wed Aug 6 06:14:00 2014
Woo hoo Eric - what a deal! CANMD had no winners for July but so far we had one member win a tail light and one member win the toilet paper. Woot! You have to pay better attention here or at work or you will miss things. :-) We had a nice time at happy hour so we will try to do it again soon.
Eric Hoffman Tue Aug 5 19:06:00 2014
Oh, and I only need to ride to work 8 more days so I can qualify to win some toilet paper ;)
Eric Hoffman Tue Aug 5 19:00:00 2014
Doh! I didn't realize we were planning a happy hour. I'll try to make it to the next one.
Tina Barton Thu Jul 31 06:22:00 2014
That's why CANMD has to watch out for those sneaky Oxon Hill people! We think we have a nice cushion on the Maryland page, but then oops - they're on our tails nationally! :-) Keep riding!
Rod Smith Thu Jul 31 04:49:00 2014
The Local Challenges are hosted by local bicycling advocacy organization. Ours is hosted by Bike Maryland. It includes all Maryland riders.
Tina Barton Wed Jul 30 06:31:00 2014
For those keeping tabs, we are adjusting happy hour time to 4:30 so I can go for an hour. I will probably drive to Arundel Mills in the Am, ride to work from there, ride back to Arundel Mills in the pm, go to happy hour and drive to my dinner engagement. What a social butterfly I'm becoming! We will probably go to the Green Turtle on Teague Rd in Hanover. I will confirm if they have outdoor seating.
Jasper Mickey Darish Tue Jul 29 09:49:00 2014
@Stan-for Endo local=state.
Tina Barton Mon Jul 28 19:58:00 2014
I just realized Thurs won't work for me. I'm meeting friends at Victoria's pub at 6pm so I'd have to leave at 5;30 by car.
Tina Barton Mon Jul 28 19:57:00 2014
Oh maybe they meant Arundel mills . either works for me. Mark, Christy was suggesting Thursday not Friday.
Mark R. Jones Mon Jul 28 17:43:00 2014
There's a Green Turtle adjacent to Arundel Mills Mall and they do have outdoor seating and easy places to put up the bikes within view of our festivities. I foresaw going to whichever venue we choose on the way home from work . . . is not 5 rather late on a Friday?
Christy Middleton Mon Jul 28 17:16:00 2014
Columbia is pretty out of the way. If folks like the Greene Turtle better, there is one at Arundel Mills too. They don't have outdoor seating though like Du Claw does. I usually just put my bike up against the fence at Du Claw. There's the standard trees too.

Let's meet at 5? I might get there a little earlier to secure some outdoor seating.

Tina Barton Sat Jul 26 16:23:00 2014
Some people were recommending Green Turtle in Columbia, as they didn't know where we would tie up our steeds (aka bikes). Does anyone have an opinion on this?
Stan Sunderwirth Sat Jul 26 13:45:00 2014
Great idea, Christy. Aug 1 is Colorado Day! Not sure if we'll make it, though. Jenny & I are going to Eastern Tandem Rally in NJ and we may be driving up that day. But, if we are in town, we're there! What time?
Mark R. Jones Fri Jul 25 21:20:00 2014
Hey - great idea! I can do that. Happy Hour won't do much for my riding, since I'm working more now on preparations for a September marathon, but Du Claw can still be a part of that plan.
Tina Barton Fri Jul 25 18:01:00 2014
Sounds good to me! I will try to broadcast it at work the usual ways.
Christy Middleton Thu Jul 24 21:27:00 2014
I love Du Claw. They have outdoor seating too so that helps for sweaty bikers. Plus it's pretty close to work and definitely bikeable from the main offices. What about Thursday next week? It's August 1st so it would be a good start to August. It doesn't looks like it's a beer release night so it shouldn't be super packed.
Tina Barton Thu Jul 24 19:09:00 2014
@Christy - Happy Hour sounds fun! Do you have a place you recommend?
Christy Middleton Thu Jul 24 10:17:00 2014
@Tina - I agree, along with extra points for climbing! That would be cool to integrate those things into the system. Simlpe is probably better though.

CANMD is slipping back in the rankings for July. We were 12th for May, 16th for June, and now 24th for July! I know my riding hasn't been helping this month so far... We need to re-amp our energy! What about a team Happy Hour? Bonus for biking to the event :)

Stan Sunderwirth Wed Jul 23 09:32:00 2014
But the "local" is supposed to include VA, MD and DC....
Dan Donahue Tue Jul 22 06:03:00 2014
@Rod that guy who fixed the valve for WSSC was a hero, indeed.

@Tina We definitely should get extra points for hauling stuff--groceries, kids, string trimmers, garbage, etc. I bet Rod would like that, since his job is to haul cargo around DC.

@Tina Oxon Hill includes members from VA and DC as well as MD. There are now only 4 members with Oxon Hill addresses out of 400 + members. The club got started in 1972 in the Oxon Hill area, but OHBTC has now become a brand name. Chances of changing the name now are nil.

Tina Barton Mon Jul 21 20:41:00 2014
Oxon Hill has a lot more points on the National Leaderboard than on the Local. Why is that? Is that because some of the riders are in a different state?
Tina Barton Sun Jul 20 09:18:00 2014
I should get 40 extra points for lugging 40 pounds of groceries on my return trip today!
Rod Smith Sat Jul 19 08:57:00 2014
Great! That would have been rough if the water had to be cut off as expected. It seems the worker who fixed it put himself at risk (operating electric grinder while standing in deep water). Kind of heroic in my opinion.
Dan Donahue Fri Jul 18 14:11:00 2014
@Rod--So. PG Co.saved by the last minute unstuck valve! Thanks for your expression of concern.
Rod Smith Thu Jul 17 20:00:00 2014
Hoping everyone in southern PG, including Oxon Hill survive without water for several days!
Eric Hoffman Thu Jul 17 18:05:00 2014
@Dan Well played ;)
Dan Donahue Tue Jul 15 16:59:00 2014
@Tina--It is a very scenic route, but much less hilly than the Pax River Rural Legacy event. The hills in Western Charles County are less frequent, more moderately sloped, and include some nice rollers. There are two or three serious climbs, depending on which distance you choose to ride. Hope to see you and a big bunch of other CANMD riders for the So. Md Century.
@Bruce--What, me sneaky??
Tina Barton Mon Jul 14 18:26:00 2014
Looks lovely, Dan. Is it on par hilliness-wise with the rural legacy ride?
Bruce Cohen Sun Jul 13 12:04:00 2014
@Dan Pretty sneaky :-)
Lili "Challenge Staff" Afkhami Sat Jul 12 14:46:00 2014
@Rino thanks for the awesome compliment!!! We're loving the engagement level of our Challengers! Have a great weekend!
Dan Donahue Sat Jul 12 08:03:00 2014
@Tina--The best way for you and CANMD to put Oxon Hill Bike & Trail Club away would be for all of you to sign up for the Sept. 8th OHB&T Southern Maryland Century-The Indian Head 100. Think about the irony, CANMD riders racking up massive numbers of miles while OHB&T's team members aren't riding, because they are working the event as volunteers! Register before July 30 and the event is only $20. Miss the 7/30/13 early registation deadline and the ride is still a value at $30. The century is $40 for day of the ride sign-ups. To sign up, go to ohbike.memberlodge.org
Tina Barton Thu Jul 10 18:54:00 2014
Those evil Oxon Hill people :-) are catching up with CANMD - what are we going to do about that? Come on Paul, get better already! Maybe we are just still missing points from the technical difficulties. Oh, but maybe OIH folks are too.
Rino Sanchez Wed Jul 9 21:34:00 2014
@Lili: Thanks for taking the time to reply here. You're doing such a good job at motivating people to compete for this challenge that we might get a little impatient waiting for our standings to update :)
Roger Reider Tue Jul 8 17:01:00 2014
Back riding again after severe bout of achilles tendinitis. Slowly ramping up mileage. Hope to be in the 125 - 200mi per week range by end of July. Prepping for at least 4 centuries in Aug-Sep-Oct. 3 are organized and will attempt 1-3 on my own.
Lili "Challenge Staff" Afkhami Tue Jul 8 14:34:00 2014
Endomondo has been having some issues with slow response times. Rest assured your points will be updated soon!
Mark Hamilton Tue Jul 8 07:13:00 2014
This is the first time I've had the same problem. My ride from yesterday shows up in Endomondo and the bike challenge, but my points did not increase. This is the first time in awhile that I uploded via .gpx instead of from my Garmin device. Wonder if that has anything to do with it,
Navah Langmeyer Mon Jun 30 20:30:00 2014
That Velominati site...that's a lot of rules. I'd never get on my bike if I felt I had to follow that many rules. I have four rules for myself:
1. Shut up and get on your bike
2. Be safe
3. Be courteous
3. Have fun
Stan, sorry to hear about the crappy weather in Denmark.
Tina Barton Mon Jun 30 02:08:00 2014
Oi poor Jenny! Sounds like a San Francisco summer! We are expecting rain every day at the beach but hopefully no real wash-outs. Not too hot, so that is nice, but not as cool and Denmark!
Stan Sunderwirth Sun Jun 29 21:44:00 2014
Had to put the tandem on 2 buses and 2 trains just to cut the days ride down from 100 miles to 54. Had a mechanical right away. Fortunately, we were next to a Danish bike shop.
Stan Sunderwirth Sun Jun 29 21:20:00 2014
Ugh! Third day of pouring rain, 53 degrees, and 30mph headwinds. Jenny is freezing. "Danish summer".
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 28 23:23:00 2014
I had some lightning and rain on my way to Elkton tonight. I survived.
Tina Barton Sat Jun 28 22:26:00 2014
Go Isaias! I got sopped today. I don't think it means I'm a badass though because I didn't plan on it. However, it actually felt kinda good. But I was glad there was no thunder & lightening.
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 27 13:01:00 2014
Almost at 5,000 challenge points. I anticipate being over before the end of next week.
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 26 23:26:00 2014

@Dan - thanks! Appreciate the effort. I'll save this for now. The contractor's put down "proper" striping since my complaint. Some areas will be a little sketchy in the winter and on foggy days, but overall, it looks great.
Dan Donahue Thu Jun 26 11:30:00 2014
@Isaias-Here is the contact information for Harford County:
Baltimore Metro Region

Additionally, you may want to contact Bob Rager (SHA Representative who has come to some of our meetings with updates on highway work). [email protected] - he may be first choice. 410-841-1020
Since it sounds like a contractor screw-up, SHA would be the starting point. Good luck

@Pete Chang - I love riding in VT!
Dan Donahue Sun Jun 22 18:47:00 2014
@ Isaias--Ok, I'll see what I can do.
Pete Chang Sun Jun 22 04:47:00 2014
This week did something completely different. Rode around central Vermont - Burlington, Vergennes, Middlebury. Beautiful scenery and lots of hills.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 21 23:28:00 2014
@Dan Donahue - it's Harford County. They are usually very good at accommodating cyclists, but not so much for this project. Any help would be much appreciated.
Dan Donahue Sat Jun 21 21:44:00 2014
@ Isaias--I just got back from my local (Charles and St. Mary's Co.) Hwy Safety Committee mtg. We, bike/ped advocates, are trying to get both State and local hwy people to be more aware of cyclist road needs. What county is Rt 715? If you want I can get the Coordinator from the Chas./St. Mary's Co HSC to get me contact info on her counterpart in that County. I could then forward the info to you. If there are bike advocates on your local HSC, you can notify them of your concern. There is definely more clout when you're part of a group and not pedaling solo. Let me know what you want to do.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 21 13:17:00 2014
Write a comment...Once again, the brain dead contractors working for MDSHA paving Route 715 into Aberdeen Proving Ground have screwed the pooch. They striped the inbound road in such a fashion that it places bicyclists on a narrow margin on the left shoulder of the road. REMINDER: on a divided highway, the each direction of the road is considered to be a one-way street. As such, a bicycle can legally use both left and right shoulder. Currently, their striping doesn't allow the left shoulder to be used by cyclists without conflict with other road users.

Additionally, there are yellow barrels protecting utility poles further up the road. The striping leads motorists right into the barrels and into any bicyclists trying to pass the barrels at the same time. This may become hazardous on days that are extremely foggy.

Their striping heading into the base endangers motorists, because it gives the impression that there are 3 lanes approaching the train bridge (inbound) causing a pinch point as the motor vehicles converge on the bridge and realize that they still only have 2 lanes across the bridge.

The reason I'm complaining about these issues is that I use the left shoulder so that I can make the left turn into Guardian Gateway with less conflict with other road users. I should be able to do so with minimal conflict with other road users. The current striping negates this right of way.

Tina Barton Sat Jun 21 03:41:00 2014
I had the most beautiful ride this evening! West Virginia, wild and wonderful! Stopped to rescue a turtle, and to be loved on by a couple dogs, plus tons of photo ops.
Eric Bubar Fri Jun 20 21:31:00 2014
First time riding clipless today. Not sure what I think about them so far. Didn't get to any open areas (lots of twists and turns on Sligo Creek). Looking forward to Monday's commute on the Capital Crescent Trail where I should be able to really cruise!
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 20 12:00:00 2014
I found out that the road closure that prompted me to stay at work Tuesday evening originated from a fire at Anderson True Value Hardware in Joppa, MD just south of Mountain Rd, Route 152. I rode past it, yesterday. It's a mess.
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 19 13:08:00 2014
I got stuck at work last night, so no mileage for a trip home and to work this morning. By time the heavy rains stopped in Aberdeen, a check of the roads showed that Route 40 Pulaski Highway was closed both east and westbound.. My source, CHART on the Web, showed the road closed from 6pm and my last check was over an hour later--still closed. It apeared to not be weather related.
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 19 13:06:00 2014
@Dan Donahue - my daily commute to and from work is about 50 miles.
Stan Sunderwirth Thu Jun 19 01:09:00 2014
We rode the Greenbriar on a tandem with Keenan on the trail-a-bike sometime in the late 1990's. It was very rough on the northern end of the trail - lots of big rocks and roots.
Tina Barton Wed Jun 18 23:23:00 2014
No, though I have looked at the web-site many times! I will be visiting my Dad in Gilmer County, and just riding around his area, which is in the tiny town of Tanner, WV.
Dan Donahue Wed Jun 18 16:43:00 2014
@Tina - Have you cycled the Greenbrier River Trial in WVa? It is a beautiful 76 mile scenic gem! Fat tires are needed, since the surface is crushed stone.
Dan Donahue Wed Jun 18 16:28:00 2014
@Isaias - Do you cycle commute to Philly or the Big Apple? Prior to retirement I cycle commuted 40 miles round trip. It was great fun!
Tina Barton Tue Jun 17 23:39:00 2014
Ohh nooo! 12th place - we need to step it up (or rather pedal it up)! I'm going to West Virginia on Wednesday - I'll try to rack up some miles in the bottom lands there. And I plan on climbing one mountain. I bonked on it last year - hopefully I'm more fit this year.
Isaias O'Daniell Tue Jun 17 23:20:00 2014
Ringer? Nah... just a guy with a long commute. One man a team does not make. The proof is CANMD has slipped out of the top 10, nationally, despite their "ringer".
Isaias O'Daniell Tue Jun 17 23:08:00 2014
@Dan Donahue - Nooooooooooooo! Not the Darish boys! OMG! I'm doomed!
Dan Donahue Tue Jun 17 22:12:00 2014
I have an answer to CANMD's ringer, Isaias O'Daniell. Oxon Hill Bike & Trail Club will soon have the Darish boys!! Danny Darish, 5 yrs old and Jake Darish, 3 yrs old are both committed training wheel cyclists. Plus Jake zooms around on a strider bike. Does anyone know if striding counts in the challenge? Both boys pedal around their hood to the tune of 1.25 to 1.50 miles per trip. Take that Isaias! Hope you hang in w/ the Challenge, so the Darish boys can come after you-LOL.
Rod Smith Mon Jun 16 01:03:00 2014
I saw the triple! I probably saw a lot of you but I don't know what you look like. I saw Darin King again. Before eight am. He was already fifteen miles into the ride. He and his friend were first on the road. I hadn't started yet. I was pre-riding the course. Congrats Darin for being first but if you only rode 61 miles today, you fell 61 points farther behind me because I rode 123 miles today! Nice ride, kid! Keep trying!
Rino Sanchez Sun Jun 15 22:15:00 2014
No worries, life's too short to worry about it! The Oxon Hill ride was great. Stan, Jenny, and Tina rode on a triple, which was just fun to watch, especially the mount and dismount. I rode part of the way to the ride and made it a full century.
Isaias O'Daniell Sun Jun 15 15:00:00 2014
Thanks, Rino, everything's fine. I'll just shut up and ride... when I can.
Rino Sanchez Sat Jun 14 23:59:00 2014
@Isaias: I think I know why it looks like your points went away. When you load the leaderboard, it first loads up the leaderboard for the current month (now June). You should see a drop down menu where you can look at April and "Entire challenge period".
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 14 15:07:00 2014
I'd like to do that ride, but early Father's Day commitments were made, so Saturday will be a low mileage or off day.
Rino Sanchez Sat Jun 14 13:30:00 2014
@Isaias: This goal of this challenge is to encourage the general population to bike more through healthy competition to get their state, community, workplace, etc to do well. Very few people bother to log their miles riding, so endomondo makes it as easy as possible. It's incredible how many miles you're putting in, and it's inspirational for a lot of these participants. The prizes are definitely a secondary goal here. I second Rod's comment, don't make riding a drudgery, ride what you want to. I'm riding the oxon hill ride tomorrow, along with several other canmd teammates. Why don't you join us and inject some fun into your rides :-) For more restricted competitions, I'd check out strava, although the prizes are not spectacular either.
Rod Smith Sat Jun 14 12:35:00 2014
You're putting in an impressive effort but it might make sense to back off a little, Isaias, especially if it's becoming drudgery. Don't let it rob you of your love of riding. Second job with no pay. :( I'd be surprised if anyone else in the top ten works full time. Regarding Honor System, I feel sorry for anyone who would cheat at this game. It might happen but since the only reward is bragging rights, it seems to me only a fool could take pride in a false result.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 14 12:26:00 2014
I'll continue to honor my commitment to team CANMD, but I guess I forgot why I uninstalled the Endomondo app previously. All of their challenges end up in drawings. The one I participated in 2 years ago was the same, and at the end, I had nothing to show for the place on the leader board that I held over an international field. It was exciting then; not so much this time. If you're at the top of the board, don't be fooled into thinking that it's all fun. It's not. It's like a second job. My Altzheimer's keeps kicking in and I forget all of the BS that occurs with Endomondo and their "honor system" scoring policy. I hope second time is the charm.
Rod Smith Fri Jun 13 23:06:00 2014
Isaias, the prizes are awarded by drawing! By reaching the Gold Level (750 points), you became eligible to win a year's supply of toilet paper, among other things. One of my teammates won the toilet paper this month, but there's another chance to win each month!

There is no prize for finishing first in your state for the month of May. There is no prize for finishing first in your state for the entire challenge period. Maybe the first placed individual nationally for the entire period wins a plaque. If I recall correctly, the top ten individual riders nationally get might some sort of recognition, in other words, your name mentioned, but no prize.

Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 13 19:24:00 2014
@Rod Smith et al, it's all yours... May results are out and it appears that I don't understand the rules, because I'm nowhere to be seen for the 2,500+ points I generated in May. So... adios!
Patrick J. McMahon Thu Jun 12 17:32:00 2014
Bonus points for carrying small children with you on a cargo bike/trailer? Just kidding.

Mark R. Jones Mon Jun 9 01:42:00 2014
Christy - Thanks for the heads-up. I pondered the Premium advantage since I too was bewildered by the organization and logic of this site. I'll just keep playing blind-man's buff with this thing.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 7 23:12:00 2014
I like warm rainy rides.
Ricky Lee Albores Sat Jun 7 15:54:00 2014
It's a little moist out there today. Free showers and bike washes compliments of Andrea!
Christy Middleton Sat Jun 7 15:53:00 2014
The site is pretty buggy and not very intuitive. I went premium to see if that helped at all - it doesn't, so save your money :)
Rino Sanchez Sat Jun 7 00:58:00 2014
There are some people that I invited, even though I knew they weren't going be riding very much. Teams of size 11-99 are all grouped together, and it's total points that counts. Until we get 99 people, every extra person we get that scores any points will help our point total. If we did get 100 people, I would probably start booting off our lowest scores :(
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 6 22:32:00 2014
Stan, I'm hanging in.
Stan Sunderwirth Fri Jun 6 18:44:00 2014

Stan Sunderwirth Fri Jun 6 18:38:00 2014
Isaisas, I hope you don't quit! We need you! Jenny and I are putting in as many miles as we can given that we still have day jobs... I've been encouraging our laggards to be more disciplined about putting in their miles with some success. At least we don't have any 0 pt people anymore.
martha nolan Fri Jun 6 15:26:00 2014
The Seagull Century is very beautiful and fun.
Heather April Fri Jun 6 12:10:00 2014
We rode for near two hours last night. It was beautiful. Is anyone here doing the seagull century?
Rod Smith Fri Jun 6 11:56:00 2014
Have you tried this, Isaias?

"Need technical help on the Challenge? Any questions? Email [email protected] for help!"

There is a lot of frustration with the website among my teammates too. I have a complaint too but I'm generally pleased with the experience. I don't think NBC is solely interested in self-promotion. They are doing a lot to promote cycling. Participation in this challenge last year helped to change me from a guy who uses a bike for work and transportation (and the occasional century ride :) ) to someone who has rediscovered a love for recreation cycling. Through NBC, I found the awesome BikeArlington online community, and a local bike shop, Proteus, which hosts group rides that I often join and really enjoy. Bicycling may seem like an odd hobby for someone like me, but it's changed my perspective, making my job less of a daily grind, more like training and a whole lot more fun. :)

Many people become daily or frequent riders through this program. It changes lives.

You are the last person I want to see leave NBC. I know I can't repeat as top finisher from Maryland unless you quit or get injured. I'd be very sad to see either of those things happen. It would be a meaningless distinction to win that way.

Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 6 06:11:00 2014
Written on the National Bike Challenge's Facebook page, since issues about Endomondo's management of their web results for the challenge remain unaddressed: Interesting that responses on to your timeline is censored. Maybe, it's time to quit this so called challenge and discourage others from participating, since it appears that the National Bike National Bike Challenge's only interest is self-promotion.
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 5 22:36:00 2014
Stephen, it was a joy having someone else to cycle with for a change. Thanks for your company!
Stephen Franzoni Thu Jun 5 22:20:00 2014
And I would like to thank Isaias for the lift home. Nothing like drafting off someone to bump you up a whole mph average for your commute home. Sorry if I slowed you down, but after I let off the gas, you became a dot on the horizon!
Dmitry Rudnev Wed Jun 4 14:46:00 2014
@Isaias and @Dan,

Same problem for Random Cyclists, people do ride, but not everyone is logging miles. I am not even thinking of seriously competing with your two powerhouses (we are not a club, just a very loose group of people who are acquainted with each other), but we could have had a better chance of being in the 3rd or 4th place if everyone in the team was better disciplined :-)

Isaias O'Daniell Wed Jun 4 12:37:00 2014
@Dan
I wish OHB&TC could be more competitive w/ CANMD, but my team of 36 riders has several people who either don't ride or just won't put their ride miles on Endomondo
We have the same...not everyone is reiding or they're not placingtheir miles into Endo.
Pete Chang Wed Jun 4 03:42:00 2014
I rode in the big down pour this morning just rack up the miles! (Thanks Jen!) It was like a lake at the bottom of Goldsboro. I got to wear wet shoes home too. They only weighed 5 lbs each. Maybe I should invest in some non-leather shoes.
Dan Donahue Wed Jun 4 02:44:00 2014
@Isaias I did two rain rides today and also enjoyed them. The 70 degree temps, moderate steady downpour, and lack of thunder and lighting combined to made for a nice change of pace. This kind of riding will definitely force me to do more drive train cleaning! I have coined a term for this type of riding--Intentional Riding In Rain (IRIR) verses getting caught in the rain while riding. Keep racking up those miles for Maryland. I wish OHB&TC could be more competitive w/ CANMD, but my team of 36 riders has several people who either don't ride or just won't put their ride miles on Endomondo
Heather April Tue Jun 3 13:45:00 2014
We had a good forty miles in this weekend down on the Eastern Shore. It was hot and windy, but absolutely beautiful.
Isaias O'Daniell Tue Jun 3 12:21:00 2014
It was an adventure ride this morning. I ran into everything from misty rain to torrential down-pours and flooded shoulders.

But, it was a warm rain. Rides like this are a blessing compared the uneventful, boring ride in and out of the workplace.

Tina Barton Sun Jun 1 03:34:00 2014
I had to "cheat" by starting down by the Patapsco - driving my car a mile to get there. That way I didn't have a nasty hill to climb in the heat. The trail in the park was so shady and lovely this afternoon. I was really glad I made that choice.
Susanna Parker Sat May 31 22:21:00 2014
Between the heat and the pollen I'm a sorry figure at the end of my ride. But hey, got my miles in today despite the gross conditions. Thank god the Capital Crescent Trail is shaded!
Maxine Mead Sat May 31 20:14:00 2014
Just got back home, had to cut my planned ride waaaay back -- my first ride in real heat this year, and I picked the hottest part of the day to head out! :-) Having a, ummm, "recovery drink" ;) right now, but still not feeling too well.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat May 31 20:08:00 2014
Be careful out there. Heat illness is nothing to be fooled with.
Elizabeth J. Willis Sat May 31 15:03:00 2014
Just got my garmin bike computer and will be using that to track my rides. Using my phone was killing my battery to much on the weekends. Now I just hope when I get home tonight it is able to sync with the computer and update my rides on here. Don't want to let anyone catch me. I am still trying to catch those guys in front of me. New bike on the ride in a specialized vita Ltd, so fast. i won't ride it everyday but boy was it nice.

Going to take the Capital Crescent, which has a lot of shade and remains relatively cool, even in the dog days :)
Elizabeth J. Willis Fri May 30 15:42:00 2014

Maxine and Isaias - Glad to hear you had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend cycling in So Md. It certainly is excellent riding territory. Where do CANMD members usually ride? Maxine, sorry that you will miss the Pax River ride, but thanks for the supportive words. The OHB&T Club takes pride in the high quality of ride events we put on in June and September. Mark your calender for September 8th--the Indian Head 100. Isaias, congrads on your #1 Md ranking and #7 National ranking in the Challenge!
Maxine Mead Tue May 27 17:54:00 2014
Dan, CANMD members Isaias and I spent the long Memorial Day weekend down your neck of the woods for some very nice riding -- La Plata-Indian Head-White Plains-La Plata; La Plata-St. Mary's City; La Plata-Cobb Island-La Plata. I did the Indian Head 100 several years back, what a great ride! To anyone considering the Pax River ride -- the Oxon Hill gang ;) are nice folks who put on lovely bike rides. I'm visiting relatives in PA that Saturday, so unfortunately I won't be able to make it.
Dan Donahue Tue May 27 03:20:00 2014
Stan and Tina-definitely bring your triple out to the Pax River Rural Legacy ride. I have seen many different unique bikes on this event ranging from tandems, recumbents, trikes, and tandem recumbents, but never a triple.
Tina Barton Mon May 26 01:56:00 2014
There's an idea Stan - I should be in town. I'm afraid I'll just weigh you down, so better do some strength training in the mean-time. Heave-HO!
Stan Sunderwirth Mon May 26 00:15:00 2014
Tina- we'll put you on the triple and get triple metric century rides for CANMD. That'll teach those Oxon Hill would-be bike thieves! :)
Dan Donahue Sun May 25 11:48:00 2014
Stan-I like the way you think. I also have paranoid traits. Let me assure you that we have no intentions of killing any of you. We're just after your bikes! LOL
Dan Donahue Sun May 25 11:47:00 2014
Rod-glad you can make it. Hope to see you there.
Dan Donahue Sun May 25 11:46:00 2014

Tina Barton Fri May 23 23:54:00 2014
Dan - Thanks for inviting canmd! It would take me 2 days to do a metric century, but many of our members would probably enjoy that!

I'll be there, Dan!
Stan Sunderwirth Fri May 23 02:02:00 2014

Gale Maurer Sauer Thu May 22 12:18:00 2014
Aberdeen Proving Ground hosted a Bike to Work Day 15 May. We acted as a satellite for the event 17 May in Harford County MD. Had 34 participants the first year and many folks who had never commuted did so in groups (for safety). What a wonderful way to bring awareness to the environmental impact of cycling as well as provide a sanctioned physical activity. At least one person hadn't ridden her bike more than a mile to the beach and back for YEARS!!
Dan Donahue Thu May 22 12:14:00 2014
On behalf of the Oxon Hill Bike and Trail Club's (OHBTC) National Bike Challenge team, I would like to invite canmd, Random Cyclists, Silver Cycles A, Bike Arlington All-Stars, National Institutes of Health, Takoma Park Bike Commuters, Bike Maryland, Pax Velo, Sumosito Cyclers, other DC Metro Challenge teams, and solo riders to participate in our Patuxent River Rural Legacy Metric Century, held on June 15. Register at www.ohbike.org. The ride starts between 7 and 9 a.m. at Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary in Croom, MD. Registration fee is $15 until May 31, $20 from June 1 to June 7, and $30 on the day of the ride. Rides of varying lengths, from 13 mi. to 62 mi., are offered.

Eric Hoffman Sat May 17 23:01:00 2014
Good point, Mary--just because I like to commute as fast as possible doesn't make it sport ;)
Maxine Mead Sat May 17 22:51:00 2014
Tina, it was nice to meet you in person! :-) It was so cool that we had such a great turnout for Bike to Work Day.

National Bike to Work Day tomorrow - fun event is planned! Looking forward to it!
Mary S Ellsworth Fri May 16 14:15:00 2014
Sport vs Transport.... did you ride instead of driving a fuel burning vehicle? Then call it transport (and get CO2 credit). Was it just a ride for the sake of biking? It was sport.
Heather April Wed May 14 18:24:00 2014
Max, every day is a good day to ride in OC!
Rod Smith Wed May 14 14:00:00 2014
Yeah, it does count for anything in the challenge, but I like it. Something else you might not care about is calories burned. If you enter miles manually, I think you also need to enter start/finish time or duration to get an estimate of calories burned.
Stan Sunderwirth Wed May 14 01:46:00 2014
I don't pay any attention to that.
Rod Smith Tue May 13 23:19:00 2014
Rides that you designate as transport miles will be included in the CO2 saved calculation. Sport miles are not. Sometimes it's its hard to say if a ride was sport or transport, there are gray areas. Many participants may not be aware that they can designate rides as transportation.
Rino Sanchez Tue May 13 04:57:00 2014
Mark, let's not get people riled up, ok? From what I can tell, the CO2 numbers are a function of the number of commute miles, which they presume are miles that are ridden by bicycle and not a motor vehicle, hence resulting in less CO2 being released in the atmosphere from those travel miles. It's just a figure, don't let it get in the way of people riding for whatever reason they want to ride for.
Isaias O'Daniell Tue May 13 01:59:00 2014
.CO2 is in relation to what would have been produced if you covered the same amount of miles in a motor vehicle.
Mark R. Jones Tue May 13 00:37:00 2014
I am confused about the metrics for "CO2 saved" by our workouts. Should not this be a measure of CO2 expended since we tend to exhale more while riding than while sitting with the remote control on the couch?
Max Stanley Mon May 12 01:29:00 2014
Great day for a ride in sunny Ocean City!
Maxine Mead Sun May 11 18:04:00 2014

Yeah, we were chatting about that in our chat room, the whole time I was thinking that you were recruiting a ringer! If he's your so, then that's another matter entirely! :) That's an incredible commute.
Maxine Mead Sat May 10 03:01:00 2014
Rino, maybe you remember, when you and I were working the CAN info table in 2A last month, and I told you about my . . . um, "dedicated", yes, that's the word . . . :D . . . significant other who bike commutes from Essex to Aberdeen (@24 miles, one way) every day, year-round, rain or shine or snow or whatever -- that's Isaias. :)
Tina Barton Fri May 9 23:31:00 2014

Isaias O'Daniell Fri May 9 13:35:00 2014

@Isaias: No hoops necessary, you should have received an invite for canmd from endomondo.
Tina Barton Thu May 8 22:17:00 2014
Sure wish I'd done my ride this morning! I'll have to find a window in this storm. Rain I can handle. Lightening worries me.
Tina Barton Thu May 8 22:15:00 2014
Ha ha ha - hoops! I asked Rino to invite you Isaias!
Isaias O'Daniell Thu May 8 18:30:00 2014
@Rod Smith - Thanks for the mention, Rod.

Maxine and other members of CANMD thought that I could become an honorary member. No one's approached me since the initial invitation. Not sure if they are serious or not or whether there'd be some hoops to jump through to make it happen.

Want to log miles and support Bike MD at the same time?? Register for the BIke Maryland RecRide on May 19th, 2013 out of Patterson Park, Baltimore. Great way to see Charm City from a different perspective. Ride starts at 8:00 and there will be ride leaders, rest stops, yoga for cyclists, youth safety rodeo, and all the festivities taking place at Bike Jam. JOIN US!! www.bikemd.org
Scott Williams Thu May 8 14:45:00 2014
What's bugging you @Mark? Maybe I can help.
Rod Smith Thu May 8 11:30:00 2014
canmd should recruit Isaias O'Daniell. I'd try to get him on Bike Arlington if he lived a little closer to DC. I don't want to go to far afield for ringers. I think I've reached my ringer recruiting limit already anyhow. Haha. He would put canmd in the top five nationally. I'd like that! Go Maryland!

Had a tough but fun day yesterday doing a modified :) version of the Monument to Monument Ride (the "Severn to Monument," 75 miles to MtM's 100-ish.)
Rod Smith Tue May 6 03:53:00 2014
Those guys I turned around to chase did include the rider I though I recognized and another of my NBC teammates. They were on a M2M starting in DC! I rode with them to Baltimore and back. Great day on the bike. Nice to meet you, sir!
Isaias O'Daniell Tue May 6 03:01:00 2014
Rod, re: your picture of Ben. LOL! I was more or less thinking I'd see him on a unicycle. Nice bike.
Isaias O'Daniell Tue May 6 02:52:00 2014
It was great meeting you, Rod! Thanks for coming back to say hello. This challenge goes until the end of September--plenty of time left.
Rod Smith Tue May 6 02:15:00 2014
I had the pleasure of riding with local challenge contenders Jeff Lemieux (long ride) and Isaias O'Daniell (briefly) this weekend on the DC-Baltimore route. The Maryland local challenge looks like it's going to be a lot more challenging this year! isaias commutes 50 miles/day and rides distance on the weekends. 225 this weekend for example. I thought I would gain ground with my 176 miles this weekend. Ha!
Rod Smith Mon May 5 00:04:00 2014
Ben was on the ride and remembers you fondly.

Jess Reiss Wed Apr 30 13:27:00 2014
Stanley: 995 = miles; 1451 = points. You get 20 points every time you ride more than 1mile in a day. So your points will always be > your miles.
Stan Sunderwirth Wed Apr 30 01:54:00 2014
Why does the total number of miles logged say 995 when I click on my name in the leader board but says 1451 (which is correct) on my profile? Are my transport miles not being counted?

Hope your cargo bike is rolling again Susan. I had fun today using NYC's citi bike program. The touch pad was not sensitive or the computer was very slow but I finally got my day pass, then I had trouble figuring out where to enter my key code once I picked my bike. Then I had trouble releasing it. Then I had trouble docking it near battery park so I went over the 30 minute limit. But I have all day to ride again and it should only cost me 15 dollars.

Stan Sunderwirth Tue Sep 3 03:51:00 2013

Nice work, Rino! We thought we'd try to limit your gains by riding 4 consecutive metric centuries. We got 63 miles on Friday but Jenny overheated in the 105 degree heat on Saturday (in Ohio) and we only got 55 miles. Then it thunderstormed as we were about to go out later for the extra 8 miles. Sunday, we got 66 miles. But today, we only got 40 miles as we had to get back to the hotel in time to check out and drive the 480 miles back to Maryland....
Dmitry Rudnev Tue Sep 3 02:46:00 2013

Yeah something is wrong with endomondo .... No points have been calculated except for Navah today. I rode a whopping 11 miles, to church, store and home and my points are what they were yesterday. Navah probably infected the system so she can be first. :-)

Wow, I'm actually in first place locally for September, with my 3-mile farmers' market trip. I'm also the only person on the leaderboard. The early bird...

Stan Sunderwirth Sun Sep 1 02:31:00 2013
Maryland law was changed 2 years ago to affirm that cyclists have the right to use the full lane if in the cyclists opinion, it is safer to do so. VA seems to have hostile bike laws.
Eric Bubar Sun Sep 1 01:29:00 2013

I will probably drive to Arundel Mills in the Am, ride to work from there, ride back to Arundel Mills in the pm, go to happy hour and drive to my dinner engagement. There's a Green Turtle adjacent to Arundel Mills Mall and they do have outdoor seating and easy places to put up the bikes within view of our festivities. I foresaw going to whichever venue we choose on the way home from work . . . is not 5 rather late on a Friday?
Christy Middleton Sun Jul 28 22:16:00 2013
Columbia is pretty out of the way. If folks like the Greene Turtle better, there is one at Arundel Mills too. They don't have outdoor seating though like Du Claw does. I usually just put my bike up against the fence at Du Claw. There's the standard trees too.

Let's meet at 5? I might get there a little earlier to secure some outdoor seating.

Md Century.

Those evil Oxon Hill people :-) are catching up with CANMD - what are we going to do about that? Come on Paul, get better already! Maybe we are just still missing points from the technical difficulties. Oh, but maybe OIH folks are too.

This is the first time I've had the same problem. My ride from yesterday shows up in Endomondo and the bike challenge, but my points did not increase. This is the first time in awhile that I uploded via .gpx instead of from my Garmin device. Wonder if that has anything to do with it,

Rino - I did as you suggested and went through the tedious process of deleting all July rides so far an reentering them one-by-one, accounting for updates at each day as I went. All works fine now. I speculate that confusion entered my logging when I accepted a challenge on June 30 to log running miles. Not gonna bother with that.

I'm working on it Rod! I'm pondering if I should keep the trek hybrid for bad weather commuting and seek out an entry level road bike for fairer weather. Two in the stable would be nice and an entry road bike is more amenable than a good cyclocross price wise!

@CANMD--Watch out for the Darish boys! They are now part of the Challenge and have joined the Oxon Hill Bike & Trail Club team.

Additionally, you may want to contact Bob Rager (SHA Representative who has come to some of our meetings with updates on highway work). [email protected] - he may be first choice. 410-841-1020
Since it sounds like a contractor screw-up, SHA would be the starting point. Good luck

@Dan Donahue - it's Harford County. They are usually very good at accommodating cyclists, but not so much for this project. Any help would be much appreciated.
Dan Donahue Fri Jun 21 16:44:00 2013
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 21 08:17:00 2013

First time riding clipless today. Not sure what I think about them so far. Didn't get to any open areas (lots of twists and turns on Sligo Creek). Looking forward to Monday's commute on the Capital Crescent Trail where I should be able to really cruise!
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 20 07:00:00 2013
I found out that the road closure that prompted me to stay at work Tuesday evening originated from a fire at Anderson True Value Hardware in Joppa, MD just south of Mountain Rd, Route 152. I rode past it, yesterday. It's a mess.
Isaias O'Daniell Wed Jun 19 08:08:00 2013
I got stuck at work last night, so no mileage for a trip home and to work this morning. By time the heavy rains stopped in Aberdeen, a check of the roads showed that Route 40 Pulaski Highway was closed both east and westbound.. My source, CHART on the Web, showed the road closed from 6pm and my last check was over an hour later--still closed. It apeared to not be weather related.
Isaias O'Daniell Wed Jun 19 08:06:00 2013
@Dan Donahue - my daily commute to and from work is about 50 miles.
Stan Sunderwirth Tue Jun 18 20:09:00 2013
We rode the Greenbriar on a tandem with Keenan on the trail-a-bike sometime in the late 1990's. It was very rough on the northern end of the trail - lots of big rocks and roots.
Tina Barton Tue Jun 18 18:23:00 2013
No, though I have looked at the web-site many times! I will be visiting my Dad in Gilmer County, and just riding around his area, which is in the tiny town of Tanner, WV.
Dan Donahue Tue Jun 18 11:43:00 2013
@Tina - Have you cycled the Greenbrier River Trial in WVa? It is a beautiful 76 mile scenic gem! Fat tires are needed, since the surface is crushed stone.
Dan Donahue Tue Jun 18 11:28:00 2013
@Isaias - Do you cycle commute to Philly or the Big Apple? Prior to retirement I cycle commuted 40 miles round trip. It was great fun!
Tina Barton Mon Jun 17 18:39:00 2013
Ohh nooo! 12th place - we need to step it up (or rather pedal it up)! I'm going to West Virginia on Wednesday - I'll try to rack up some miles in the bottom lands there. And I plan on climbing one mountain. I bonked on it last year - hopefully I'm more fit this year.
Isaias O'Daniell Mon Jun 17 18:20:00 2013
Ringer? Nah... just a guy with a long commute. One man a team does not make. The proof is CANMD has slipped out of the top 10, nationally, despite their "ringer".
Isaias O'Daniell Mon Jun 17 18:08:00 2013
@Dan Donahue - Nooooooooooooo! Not the Darish boys! OMG! I'm doomed!
Dan Donahue Mon Jun 17 17:12:00 2013
Rod Smith Sat Jun 15 20:03:00 2013
I saw the triple! I probably saw a lot of you but I don't know what you look like. I saw Darin King again. Before eight am. He was already fifteen miles into the ride. He and his friend were first on the road. I hadn't started yet. I was pre-riding the course. Congrats Darin for being first but if you only rode 61 miles today, you fell 61 points farther behind me because I rode 123 miles today! Nice ride, kid! Keep trying!
Rino Sanchez Sat Jun 15 17:15:00 2013
No worries, life's too short to worry about it! The Oxon Hill ride was great. Stan, Jenny, and Tina rode on a triple, which was just fun to watch, especially the mount and dismount. I rode part of the way to the ride and made it a full century.
Isaias O'Daniell Sat Jun 15 10:00:00 2013
Thanks, Rino, everything's fine. I'll just shut up and ride... when I can.
Rino Sanchez Fri Jun 14 18:59:00 2013
@Isaias: I think I know why it looks like your points went away. When you load the leaderboard, it first loads up the leaderboard for the current month (now June). You should see a drop down menu where you can look at April and "Entire challenge period".
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 14 10:07:00 2013
I'd like to do that ride, but early Father's Day commitments were made, so Saturday will be a low mileage or off day.
Rino Sanchez Fri Jun 14 08:30:00 2013
Rod Smith Fri Jun 14 07:35:00 2013
You're putting in an impressive effort but it might make sense to back off a little, Isaias, especially if it's becoming drudgery. Don't let it rob you of your love of riding. Second job with no pay. :( I'd be surprised if anyone else in the top ten works full time. Regarding Honor System, I feel sorry for anyone who would cheat at this game. It might happen but since the only reward is bragging rights, it seems to me only a fool could take pride in a false result.
Isaias O'Daniell Fri Jun 14 07:26:00 2013
Rod Smith Thu Jun 13 18:06:00 2013
Isaias, the prizes are awarded by drawing! By reaching the Gold Level (750 points), you became eligible to win a year's supply of toilet paper, among other things. One of my teammates won the toilet paper this month, but there's another chance to win each month!

There is no prize for finishing first in your state for the month of May. There is no prize for finishing first in your state for the entire challenge period. Maybe the first placed individual nationally for the entire period wins a plaque. If I recall correctly, the top ten individual riders nationally get might some sort of recognition, in other words, your name mentioned, but no prize.

Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 13 14:24:00 2013
@Rod Smith et al, it's all yours... May results are out and it appears that I don't understand the rules, because I'm nowhere to be seen for the 2,500+ points I generated in May. So... adios!
Patrick J. McMahon Wed Jun 12 12:32:00 2013

There are some people that I invited, even though I knew they weren't going be riding very much. Teams of size 11-99 are all grouped together, and it's total points that counts. Until we get 99 people, every extra person we get that scores any points will help our point total. If we did get 100 people, I would probably start booting off our lowest scores :(
Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 6 17:32:00 2013
Stan, I'm hanging in.
Stan Sunderwirth Thu Jun 6 13:44:00 2013
Sorry, I mistyped Isaias.
Stan Sunderwirth Thu Jun 6 13:38:00 2013
Isaisas, I hope you don't quit! We need you! Jenny and I are putting in as many miles as we can given that we still have day jobs... I've been encouraging our laggards to be more disciplined about putting in their miles with some success. At least we don't have any 0 pt people anymore.

The Seagull Century is very beautiful and fun.
Heather April Thu Jun 6 07:10:00 2013
We rode for near two hours last night. It was beautiful. Is anyone here doing the seagull century?
Rod Smith Thu Jun 6 06:56:00 2013

Isaias O'Daniell Thu Jun 6 01:11:00 2013
Written on the National Bike Challenge's Facebook page, since issues about Endomondo's management of their web results for the challenge remain unaddressed: Interesting that responses on to your timeline is censored. Maybe, it's time to quit this so called challenge and discourage others from participating, since it appears that the National Bike National Bike Challenge's only interest is self-promotion.
Isaias O'Daniell Wed Jun 5 17:36:00 2013
Stephen, it was a joy having someone else to cycle with for a change. Thanks for your company!
Stephen Franzoni Wed Jun 5 17:20:00 2013
And I would like to thank Isaias for the lift home. Nothing like drafting off someone to bump you up a whole mph average for your commute home. Sorry if I slowed you down, but after I let off the gas, you became a dot on the horizon!
Dmitry Rudnev Tue Jun 4 09:46:00 2013
@Isaias and @Dan,

Isaias O'Daniell Tue Jun 4 07:37:00 2013
@Dan
I wish OHB&TC could be more competitive w/ CANMD, but my team of 36 riders has several people who either don't ride or just won't put their ride miles on Endomondo
We have the same...not everyone is reiding or they're not placingtheir miles into Endo.
Pete Chang Mon Jun 3 22:42:00 2013
I rode in the big down pour this morning just rack up the miles! (Thanks Jen!) It was like a lake at the bottom of Goldsboro. I got to wear wet shoes home too. They only weighed 5 lbs each. Maybe I should invest in some non-leather shoes.
Dan Donahue Mon Jun 3 21:44:00 2013
Heather April Mon Jun 3 08:45:00 2013
We had a good forty miles in this weekend down on the Eastern Shore. It was hot and windy, but absolutely beautiful.
Isaias O'Daniell Mon Jun 3 07:21:00 2013
It was an adventure ride this morning. I ran into everything from misty rain to torrential down-pours and flooded shoulders.

But, it was a warm rain. Rides like this are a blessing compared the uneventful, boring ride in and out of the workplace.

Tina Barton Fri May 31 22:34:00 2013
I had to "cheat" by starting down by the Patapsco - driving my car a mile to get there. That way I didn't have a nasty hill to climb in the heat. The trail in the park was so shady and lovely this afternoon. I was really glad I made that choice.
Susanna Parker Fri May 31 17:21:00 2013
Between the heat and the pollen I'm a sorry figure at the end of my ride. But hey, got my miles in today despite the gross conditions. Thank god the Capital Crescent Trail is shaded!
Maxine Mead Fri May 31 15:14:00 2013
Just got back home, had to cut my planned ride waaaay back -- my first ride in real heat this year, and I picked the hottest part of the day to head out! :-) Having a, ummm, "recovery drink" ;) right now, but still not feeling too well.
Isaias O'Daniell Fri May 31 15:08:00 2013
Be careful out there. Heat illness is nothing to be fooled with.
Elizabeth J. Willis Fri May 31 10:03:00 2013
Just got my garmin bike computer and will be using that to track my rides.
Richard A.Crafton Fri May 31 09:51:00 2013
Its finally FRIDAY :)
Stephen Franzoni Fri May 31 07:52:00 2013
Felt good today. Cooler commute this morning and I got to rescue a turtle. It wasn't happy about it, but I felt good.
Rod Smith Thu May 30 20:13:00 2013
Sometimes when it's really hot out I wonder why I wear a big heavy bag on my back instead of carrying it on my big heavy trailer.
Mike Lastort Thu May 30 14:04:00 2013
Going to take the Capital Crescent, which has a lot of shade and remains relatively cool, even in the dog days :)
Elizabeth J. Willis Thu May 30 10:42:00 2013
I am so glad it is hot. I have had enough winter to last me. Luckily for me the MVT is very shaddy, so I don't notice the heat to much. Even rode in this morning without a jacket, First time this year.
Max Stanley Thu May 30 10:35:00 2013
Its going to be one hot commute home today
Isaias O'Daniell Thu May 30 07:14:00 2013
Thanks, Dan!
Dan Donahue Wed May 29 13:34:00 2013
Maxine and Isaias - Glad to hear you had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend cycling in So Md.
Maxine Mead Mon May 27 12:54:00 2013
Dan, CANMD members Isaias and I spent the long Memorial Day weekend down your neck of the woods for some very nice riding -- La Plata-Indian Head-White Plains-La Plata; La Plata-St.
Dan Donahue Sun May 26 22:20:00 2013
Stan and Tina-definitely bring your triple out to the Pax River Rural Legacy ride. I have seen many different unique bikes on this event ranging from tandems, recumbents, trikes, and tandem recumbents, but never a triple.
Tina Barton Sat May 25 20:56:00 2013
There's an idea Stan - I should be in town. I'm afraid I'll just weigh you down, so better do some strength training in the mean-time. Heave-HO!
Stan Sunderwirth Sat May 25 19:15:00 2013
Tina- we'll put you on the triple and get triple metric century rides for CANMD. That'll teach those Oxon Hill would-be bike thieves! :)
Dan Donahue Sat May 25 06:48:00 2013
Stan-I like the way you think. I also have paranoid traits. Let me assure you that we have no intentions of killing any of you. We're just after your bikes! LOL
Dan Donahue Sat May 25 06:47:00 2013
Rod-glad you can make it. Hope to see you there.
Dan Donahue Sat May 25 06:46:00 2013
Tina-you don't have to do the metric century. We have rides of shorter distances, all the way down to 13 mi. Hope you can come out & ride.
Tina Barton Thu May 23 18:54:00 2013
Dan - Thanks for inviting canmd! It would take me 2 days to do a metric century, but many of our members would probably enjoy that!
Rod Smith Thu May 23 16:17:00 2013
I'll be there, Dan!
Stan Sunderwirth Wed May 22 21:02:00 2013
Oh sure, just lure us all in so you can kill us.... :)
Ricky Lee Albores Wed May 22 09:04:00 2013
Thanks for the invite Dan Donahue. Unfortunately, I will be hiking in Wyoming that week... Enjoy the ride.
Gale Maurer Sauer Wed May 22 07:18:00 2013
Aberdeen Proving Ground hosted a Bike to Work Day 15 May.
Dan Donahue Wed May 22 07:14:00 2013
On behalf of the Oxon Hill Bike and Trail Club's (OHBTC) National Bike Challenge team, I would like to invite canmd, Random Cyclists, Silver Cycles A, Bike Arlington All-Stars, National Institutes of Health, Takoma Park Bike Commuters, Bike Maryland, Pax Velo, Sumosito Cyclers, other DC Metro Challenge teams, and solo riders to participate in our Patuxent River Rural Legacy Metric Century, held on June 15.

Eric Hoffman Fri May 17 18:01:00 2013
Good point, Mary--just because I like to commute as fast as possible doesn't make it sport ;)
Maxine Mead Fri May 17 17:51:00 2013
Tina, it was nice to meet you in person! :-) It was so cool that we had such a great turnout for Bike to Work Day.

National Bike to Work Day tomorrow - fun event is planned! Looking forward to it!
Mary S Ellsworth Thu May 16 09:15:00 2013
Sport vs Transport.... did you ride instead of driving a fuel burning vehicle? Then call it transport (and get CO2 credit). Was it just a ride for the sake of biking? It was sport.
Heather April Tue May 14 13:24:00 2013
Max, every day is a good day to ride in OC!
Rod Smith Tue May 14 09:00:00 2013
Yeah, it does count for anything in the challenge, but I like it. Something else you might not care about is calories burned. If you enter miles manually, I think you also need to enter start/finish time or duration to get an estimate of calories burned.
Stanley Alexander Sunderwirth Mon May 13 20:46:00 2013
I don't pay any attention to that.
Rod Smith Mon May 13 18:19:00 2013
Rides that you designate as transport miles will be included in the CO2 saved calculation. Sport miles are not. Sometimes it's its hard to say if a ride was sport or transport, there are gray areas. Many participants may not be aware that they can designate rides as transportation.
Rino Sanchez Sun May 12 23:57:00 2013
Mark, let's not get people riled up, ok? From what I can tell, the CO2 numbers are a function of the number of commute miles, which they presume are miles that are ridden by bicycle and not a motor vehicle, hence resulting in less CO2 being released in the atmosphere from those travel miles. It's just a figure, don't let it get in the way of people riding for whatever reason they want to ride for.
Isaias O'Daniell Sun May 12 20:59:00 2013
.CO2 is in relation to what would have been produced if you covered the same amount of miles in a motor vehicle.
Mark R. JOnes Sun May 12 19:37:00 2013
I am confused about the metrics for "CO2 saved" by our workouts. Should not this be a measure of CO2 expended since we tend to exhale more while riding than while sitting with the remote control on the couch?
Max Stanley Sat May 11 20:29:00 2013
Great day for a ride in sunny Ocean City!
Maxine Mead Sat May 11 13:04:00 2013

Maxine Mead Thu May 9 22:01:00 2013
Rino, maybe you remember, when you and I were working the CAN info table in 2A last month, and I told you about my . . . um, "dedicated", yes, that's the word . . . :D . . . significant other who bike commutes from Essex to Aberdeen (@24 miles, one way) every day, year-round, rain or shine or snow or whatever -- that's Isaias. :)

Rino Sanchez Wed May 8 19:52:00 2013
@Isaias: No hoops necessary, you should have received an invite for canmd from endomondo.
Tina Barton Wed May 8 17:17:00 2013
Sure wish I'd done my ride this morning! I'll have to find a window in this storm. Rain I can handle. Lightening worries me.
Tina Barton Wed May 8 17:15:00 2013
Ha ha ha - hoops! I asked Rino to invite you Isaias!
Isaias O'Daniell Wed May 8 13:30:00 2013
@Rod Smith - Thanks for the mention, Rod.

Maxine and other members of CANMD thought that I could become an honorary member. No one's approached me since the initial invitation. Not sure if they are serious or not or whether there'd be some hoops to jump through to make it happen.

Rod Smith Wed May 8 06:30:00 2013
canmd should recruit Isaias O'Daniell. I'd try to get him on Bike Arlington if he lived a little closer to DC. I don't want to go to far afield for ringers. I think I've reached my ringer recruiting limit already anyhow. Haha. He would put canmd in the top five nationally. I'd like that! Go Maryland!

It was great meeting you, Rod! Thanks for coming back to say hello. This challenge goes until the end of September--plenty of time left.

Ha!

Just finished a weekend ride for 25 miles throughout Baltimore and the Gwynns Falls Trail. I recommend it for a great series of views around the city and its parks!
Jess Reiss Tue Apr 30 08:27:00 2013
Stanley: 995 = miles; 1451 = points. You get 20 points every time you ride more than 1mile in a day. So your points will always be > your miles.
Stanley Alexander Sunderwirth Mon Apr 29 20:54:00 2013
Why does the total number of miles logged say 995 when I click on my name in the leader board but says 1451 (which is correct) on my profile? Are my transport miles not being counted?

Even w/one of our team members down, we are close to surpassing them for August. It's so close, 7 points, that my evening ride today should put us in front of them.

I was able to take my 4th string bike down to FL, so I rode every day for the month of July. I eked out a 3rd platinum with a night ride on July 31, after driving 10 hrs to get home.

Rod Smith Tue Jul 24 08:11:00 2012
Dan, I get the figures same place you do. Squirrels 28882, Oxon 23361. You can change period from 'July' to 'entire period'. You probably knew that. Rent a beach cruiser or something to ride a few miles a day. Twenty points for every day you ride... You probably knew that.
keith Gard Mon Jul 23 21:49:00 2012
Dan, sad to hear that your off the bike this week. I noticed you had not posted many miles. I tried to get team Smartronix to all ride that BSA century but no luck. Rod will have to keep me riding extra miles for the rest of the month.
Dan Donahue Mon Jul 23 21:45:00 2012
Rod-I was using the figures from Endomondo national rankings and points for teams. Where did you come up with your figures for team points?

I'm going to be down in FL for the remainder of July and will be basically out of the challenge for that period of time. You & Keith will have to fight it out for who takes #1 in MD for July. Hopefully, I'll be back in the game for the month of Aug. Ride safe!

Dan Donahue Mon Jul 23 21:40:00 2012
Keith-great idea about doing metric centuries to catch the Kamikaze Squirrels team. I was away this weekend for my niece's graduation party in the Albany, NY area. No time for big mileage riding. 3 members of Oxon Hill Bike & TRail club Team 1 rode full centuries on Sunday's BSA Potomac Heritage ride in So. MD. Another member put in a metric century. It really made a difference. Team 1 moved from a national ranking of 25th to 17th, while the Squirrels remain 7th nationally. We may have to start doing double metric centuries.to catch the squirrels.
Rod Smith Fri Jul 20 19:21:00 2012
Hunh? Kamikaze Squirrels teanm is #7 nationally with 27,410 points. Oxen Hill Team 1 is #25 with 22,433 points.
keith Gard Thu Jul 19 20:43:00 2012
Put in a metric century day to stay in contention
Dan Donahue Thu Jul 19 18:48:00 2012
Hey, Oxon Hill Bicycle & Trail Club- Team 1 do you think the team can catch the Kamikaze Squirrels team? Those crazy critters are only 828 pts ahead as of 6:50 pm 7/19/2012.
David S Raimist Sun Jul 15 17:40:00 2012
My first duathlon today. Did the bike part of the relay. Had a great time! 26 mile ride.
Heather April Sun Jul 15 16:26:00 2012
Good Luck Shawn!!
Jenny Sunderwirth Thu Jul 12 20:17:00 2012
Shawn, we plan to do our 3rd seagull on our Co-motion this year. We have a blue/green bike with a blue crab on back. Promise her lots of breaks and don't forget the pie and ice cream!
Shawn C Brownson Thu Jul 12 11:54:00 2012
Heather, I'm to do the Seagull Centry this year with some friends. Trying to convince my wife to do it with me on a tandem. If not I'll be riding my trike.
Heather April Tue Jul 10 15:38:00 2012
Thanks Shoval. I'm a little concerned about the fundraising expectation of $1200. I'm told you have to commit to pay it if you don't raise it and I"m coming in late. I need to think about it another day or so.
Shoval Dekel Tue Jul 10 11:18:00 2012
Heather, I did TNT Asheville, NC, ride last month, it was a great ride and the support of the team is amazing! I am training for the Seagull ride with the Team, there is a small group. They get you ready for the ride, so even if you feel like it is too much right now, you will train and be ready for the event.
Heather April Tue Jul 10 09:51:00 2012
Considering team in training for the Seagull Century in Salisbury, Maryland. It would be my first tour and/or century. I'd do the metric version. Anyone else doing this ride?
keith Gard Sat Jul 7 23:02:00 2012
Got out to my buddies house for the race for a few miles.
Dan Donahue Sat Jul 7 21:45:00 2012
Keith--I cycle commuted from Drayden to Lexington Park in the 1970s and then from Mechanicsville to LaPlata. The LaPlata commute was 20 miles one way, similiar to your short route. I am retired now. My goal w/ the NBC is to have a more balanced mix of utility and recreational riding. Prior to the NBC I was 90% recreational, but now my utility riding has jumped up to 44%. Lets help motivate each other to achieve that 1,000+ mile month. I finished June w/ 1,058 miles, but July and August will test us because of the heat, humidity, and storms.
keith Gard Fri Jul 6 22:48:00 2012
Dan, It has mostly been riding to and from work, but this month I am trying to go more than a thousand miles. So I am riding at least 30 miles a day on the weekend as well. The ride on 235 can get interesting some days but after a few years you get used to it. My commute is 20 miles oneway on the shortest route. 31 on my alternate way so it allows me ample oppertunity for miles.
Dan Donahue Fri Jul 6 21:49:00 2012
@ Keith-looks like I am chasing to keep up w/ you! From your profile it appears that transport cycling accounts for a lot of your ride miles. Is it mostly commuting to/fm work? The LP City area can be a dangerous place to ride, specially around rush hour. How about Lexington Park (St Mary's Co.) leading the state of Maryland in miles ridden per 1,000 residents! Ride safe.
keith Gard Thu Jul 5 11:09:00 2012
With the miles Dan is putting in I will set a new milage record for myself this week to keep up.
jeff lemieux Thu Jul 5 07:52:00 2012
Hi Dan! I'm not much of a long-distance rider -- I just accumulate a lot of miles commuting to DC and cruising around Beltsville and College Park on weekends I guess... I often post at the WABA/Bike Arlington community forum under the username "Greenbelt" -Jeff
Dan Donahue Thu Jul 5 07:23:00 2012
@Rod Smith & Jeff Lemeiux- tried to get to your comments through Endomondo, w/out any success, so I'm using the post feature to communicate with you. It's been fun competing w/you guys. We'll see what happens in July & August, where I have learned to use heat & humidity as fuel for my cycling. Last Friday, w/a heat index of 115, I rode to Pt. Lookout, MD, putting in a total of 73 mi. That's where I discovered the secret of high heat & humidity fuel for cycling. I look forward to your comments & competition.
Dan Donahue Thu Jul 5 00:34:00 2012
It's after midnight and I just got home from cycling to/from the DC 4th of July fireworks show. What a great combination-a ride across the Wilson Bridge, pedaling along the Mount Vernon Trail and then sitting along the Potomac River watching a terrific 17 minute fireworks display! The ride/walk/ride/walk/ride back to the Oxon Hill Park and Ride lot was an entire event of its own w/ masses of peds and cyclists clogging the trail networks for miles. Oh, what fun! Hopefully, Linda M. will post some of her fireworks pics on the OHBTC website. Thank you Michie for leading such an usual ride, sign me up for next year!
Rod Smith Mon Jul 2 06:45:00 2012
How many didn't get points for miles ridden Saturday because their power was out until the next day? Miles logged for June don't count towards your point total if logged after the end of the month. I lost 73pts. :(

Jim Hudnall, I rode that Patuxent Ride on the 16th. Thanks for telling us about it.

Heather April Thu Jun 21 09:05:00 2012
Wow I didn't know there was a MD page for comments!
Jim Hudnall Tue Jun 5 16:16:00 2012
Add to your miles by riding the Patuxent River Rural Legacy Bike Ride on Saturday, June 16. Fully-supported rides of 13, 26, 45 and 62 miles through Prince George's County's Rural Legacy Area. Start your ride between 7am and 9 am from the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. Register online for $20 through June 7. Registration on the day of the ride is $30. I was about to post that, Stephen -- back in the top 20, too! I pledge to do a lap around the Alleghany County fairgrounds each day this weekend, where I'll be for Delfest. My daughter, too -- she's logging her miles to and from elementary school for the greater glory of Maryland!
Stephen Starling Fri May 25 07:55:00 2012
Way to go Maryland! We are one position higher than Virginia, finally! Hope can stay above them!

I'll do my best for the team. Thanks for clueing me in Mr. Williams.
Scott Williams Tue May 8 09:06:00 2012
Yes, you can add your miles ridden in May, and get points for them. You can enter miles for before May if you want to use Endomondo to track all your riding, but no points for miles before May 1.
Fran Horan Tue May 8 08:35:00 2012
Judy, there was a trial period before May when you could enter miles but they did not count for the 'contest'. It was like practice time. May 1 is when the 'official' count starts.
Fran Horan Tue May 8 08:33:00 2012
Dan, I'm just a user but it looks to me like this is all based on the honor system and you can enter miles ridden in the past. I don't plan to get on this thing every day but rather at the end of a week look back and enter my rides for that week.
Dan Donahue Tue May 8 07:11:00 2012
Like Judy Grillo, I have already cycled 186.69 miles since May 1st, but didn't register for the Challenge until today. Can those early May miles be counted? My goal for May is 600 miles. 2012 YTD miles as of the end of April is 1438 miles.
Grace MC Carter Tue Apr 24 19:26:00 2012
How do we delete our team(I accidentally put in a typo!)
Judy Grillo Mon Apr 16 12:46:00 2012
I've already cycled 1,002 miles in 2012. Can't those miles count? :)
Kim Walker Mon Apr 16 11:55:00 2012
I dont ride to work but I ride on the weekends.
