Just got back from Bike Virginia. 300 miles around the Blue Ridge mountains over 6 days riding. Beautiful country, weather was perfect, no rain, cool at night for camping. Back in NJ I heard it rained was hot and humid.

First trip down to Ocean City and back. Definitly will make this a routine! Only needed 1 new tube and a spoke, fortunatly our bike shope "Tuckahoe Bike Shop" was on our route. Nick and Matt were great at getting back on the road before we cooled down.

Riding a bike to the store is just as convenient as having a drive through at every store. No Trafic, No parking to deal with, just roll up, shop and go.
Out riding to the REI sale. Got some fenders for the rain, water proof rack bag, and a hand pump.
Manage to get some trips to the store on the big boy trike before the heavy rains.

Got the "angry horn" from a speeding car today. Reacted with the bird. I usually don't play their game of rage... just a reaction. I was going over 30 MPH down a hill, so the car must have been braking the speed limit if I was "in their way". I recommend better training for drivers.. I admit I was not ready to drive at 17.

@Franc - Thanks for the response about the tires. I have been commuting every day and needed a bullet proof tire. My front tire is a Armadillo. That was on the bike when I bought it used about 2 years ago. Never got a flat in the front.
I guess the armadilo, the gatorskins, and the bontrager triple flat protection tires are the best.

@ron -- i use continental gatorskins on my training bike which have been extremely good to me up until this year. i think that this year the roads are worst than at any other time i've seen them. i've gone through five tubes already since the spring season began when all winter long i really had no trouble.

Well todays ride was fun only 6.3 mile, The 25 year old grandson on his roller blades and I was on Old Blue my blue bike. first lap around the 2.1 mile loop took it easy. on the second loop he started to pick it up 16 mph, then about 1/2 way we hit a smooth section and he really opened it up 25 mph , this 68 1/2 year old man was left in the gutter, the 3rd time around we just took it easy and chatted I had a really grate time he did help me load the bike up.

Today was my last ride of the Challenge. 55 miles on this beautiful day. It's been a great few months of riding. I am proud to have ridden so many miles and hope to finish in the top 10 for the State.

Nice ride Andrew. I recorded 3100 feet on the 40 mile route with 4 cat 4 climbs. The Tour de Long Valley was definitely a challenging and beautiful event.
Ron? What Rail Trail takes you up to Nyack?
Tout of Long Valley rocked!! One estimate had the total verticle for the metric century at 3300 feet. Another had it over 5000!!! WOW! Took my time, enjoyed myself talked with other riders and encouraged them along and still finished in just over 4h30m. Oh! And the route was spectacularly beaitiful. $11,000+ all to good causes too!

The Rail-Trails are my savior. I did 30 miles from Englewood to Nyack mostly on a Rail-Trail. Love it.... and no cars to HONK at me.
i hear you on the honks. i have no issue with a courtesy honk, but don't do it when you're at my rear wheel.
i had someone come by in a Jeep Cherokee last week, hanging out sitting on the window sill of the passenger door scream at me while hugging the shoulder line.... i almost had a heart attack. couldn't even let go of the bars to flip him off!

Oh man. I lost my cool today with a car that honked at me. I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I was ready to fight this random guy. Luckaly he had better judgment and drove off. After I calmed down I realized that it is not worth fighting a guy over a traffic honk. Easy goes it. I really wish that New Jersey would catch up with New York and put more bike lanes in.
I've had the need for simple transportation lately. The end result is that I've riden my 1970's vitage Ross Eurotour 3-speed about 70 miles in the past several days including 30 miles last Friday. I'm always amazed how easy it is to ride that bike long distances.
Wow, that was a big ride for me. I traveled up the large Palisades Ave hill to Fort Lee. Then across the GWB, to get north to the Bronx. I walked the bridge in to the Bronx.. hit Van Cortland park and road the rail trail for miles................ till Hartsdale, NY
I plan to ride 35miles from Englewood to White Plains, NY Friday.

Ride the David D Hammar Foundation Tour of Long Valley on the 26th this month if you want to see what I mean about this eing one of the best places anywhere for cycling.
Rode 36 very hilly but unbelievably beautiful miles in Long Valley yesterday. This ended up being one of the best rides I've ever done anywhere! That includes many rides in Europe. Very few cars, beautiful scenery, and very entertaining teeny tiny roads. New Jersey cycling is truely world class!

Had a great ride this morning, very few people out on the towpath. Rode 23 miles and averaged my best MPH - 11.5 during the ride. I should have 100 miles in by the end of the month. My goal is to get my endurance up and the ability to ride at a pace of at least 12 mph during the ride. If I can do this, I will be able to ride with some of the group rides of the club I joined. Don't feel like I can quite do it yet. Would like to make it to 500 points by the end of July. I am amazed I am already into the silver category. Tour de France starts Saturday. Anyone going to watch?
I never thought I'd be riding this much on my Brompton. It feels great! I'm definitely partial to AM rides. Much cooler, less traffic, and I have more energy.

Man O Man, what a great day for a ride. In the 80's but breezy, sunny and absolutely gorgeous!!!!! Got on my bike at 10:30AM and rode about 29 miles. Probably could have gone further but had to stop and fix a flat. Hate when that happens. Ah, well, nothing could spoil this day. Canal on one side of me and the river on the other, riding in the coolness of the shade most of the time. What a fabulous day!!!! Hope others had a great one as well.

Anyone who wishes to call BS on Johns miles, you are more than welcome to join us for a group ride. We ride just about every night after work, and we hit just about every local bike shop group ride as well. We have every skill level from beginner to semi pro available with loops from 5 miles to 50 miles.

I had the most scary moment EVER on a bicycle today. I was riding west on Cranbury Neck Road about two miles out of the Village of Cranbury. Traffic was light at around 3:30pm and I was hauling at around 23mph with my hands in the drops and my head down at times. I looked up only to see a car coming straight at me!!!! The driver was passing a car and didn't even see me! I was litterally run off the road at 23mph! I kept it upright and the bike was fine but I had the scare of my life. The bastard didn't even once try to slow down. Full throttle the whole time!!!!

Got out on my bike to watch the Tour of Sommerville, Saturday Classic fly by near my house. Came home and watched the Giro stage 20 live on the interenet. It's the start of a great weekend!
The Tour de Monclair was awsome today! What was even more awsome was how easy it was to ride to and from Montclair from Newark Penn Station. North Arlington, Kearny and Harrison were easy fun to ride through!! Newark does need a little help even if its easy peasy 8am on Sunday morning due to a lake of traffic.

I biked 102.5 miles today training for the Longest Day Ride in June. It's 11pm and I'm still awake. I'm always amazed at how low the traffic is between 10am and 2pm on a weekday. Also traffic out in Hunterdon County is nothing like it is on a weekend day when everyone is out driving for fun. My ride out to Lambertville and back was absolutely sublime and relatively quite. VERY little drama with clueless drivers.
I'm wondering if I can convince my whole extended family to join. Maybe kick things off by biking to a wedding this weekend...
I love bicycling in NJ but I don`t mind exploring in other states.
